While serving as fiscal sponsor, we monitored the use of grant funds by Mission Local through regular conversations, at least monthly, with Lydia Chavez, executive director of Mission Local. Toward the end of 2022, Mission Local received its own independent 501c3 status. The small number of donations received by the Public Press on behalf of Mission Local in 2023 came from individuals who didn't know that Mission Local had received a 501c3 determination from the IRS.
